Need step by step instructions on how to create a capital A letter shape out of pictures using GIMP for MAC!!!?

I'm trying to take a collage, overlay a capital letter A and have the collage fill in the confines of the letter, then delete the rest of the collage. I've looked and looked for tutorials, but nothing has worked for me, probably because I have a Mac. Please help!
